Choose your sailcloth
Both cloths are woven polyester (Dacron) from Dimension-Polyant, the German sailcloth maker. We name the exact cloth style and weight so you know what you are buying. A cheap sail usually starts with a cheap, unnamed cloth that loses its shape; we would rather save money by running a streamlined loft.
- Dimension-Polyant Optimum Cruise 248 OC 6 oz: Dimension-Polyant’s cruising Dacron and our best value. A dependable all-round cloth for coastal and weekend cruising.
- Dimension-Polyant C-Breeze 241CB 5 oz: a tighter weave of higher-tenacity fibres that resists stretch under load and keeps its shape for longer. Choose it if the sail will work hard, live on the boom or go offshore.
Battens
- Full battens (4): run from luff to leech. They hold the sail’s shape, stop it flogging when you reef or drop it, and help it last longer. This is the upgrade we recommend most.
- 3 leech + 1 full head batten: one full-length batten at the head, where it supports the top of the sail, with three short leech battens below it. A lower price and a softer, simpler sail.
