Can I get a sail price online without requesting a quote?
Yes. On Sails.Online you search for your boat, pick the sail, sailcloth and options, and the price updates on the page straight away. You can add it to your cart and pay online. There is no quote form, no sales call and no waiting for a sailmaker to email you back.
How is Sails.Online different from Kraken Sails?
Sails.Online sells made-to-measure sails at fixed online prices for sailors who know their boat and want a good-value sail without a consultation. Kraken Sails is the full-service loft for ocean passages, liveaboards and racing programs, with custom design and higher-performance cloth. Both use the same production system.
Prices
How much does a new mainsail cost?
A made-to-measure cruising mainsail on Sails.Online is priced for your exact boat. Prices rise with sail area and with the Fastnet or Palma cloths, full battens or an express build. Shipping is added at checkout.
How is the price calculated?
Each price is calculated from your boat's published rig dimensions: luff (P) and foot (E) for a mainsail, and I and J for a genoa. The sail area, sailcloth, batten layout and build time set the final price. You see it before you buy, including GST in Australia.
What currency are prices in?
Prices are shown in Australian dollars including 10% GST for delivery addresses in Australia, and in US dollars for every other country. The currency follows your delivery address, and the total is confirmed at checkout before you pay.
Boats and sails
Which boats can I get an instant sail price for?
You can price mainsails and 135% furling genoas for cruising boat models from Beneteau, Catalina, Hanse and Jeanneau, and one-design sails for 96 classes including J/24, Hobie, Laser, Nacra, Optimist, RS and Topaz. Search for your boat on the Find Sails for Your Boat page: https://www.sails.online/?page_id=4542
My boat is not listed. Can I still order?
Not online yet. Email hello@sails.online with your boat and rig dimensions and we will tell you whether we can price it. For ocean passages, in-mast or in-boom furling mainsails or a fully custom design, Kraken Sails can quote it.
What sailcloth options are there?
Cruising sails come in three Challenge sailcloths. Challenge Atlantic is a value woven polyester (Dacron) and the lowest price. Challenge Fastnet is a higher-grade Dacron that holds its shape longer. Challenge Palma is a cruising laminate with glued seams, lighter and the best for shape. Cloth weight is matched to your boat's size.
What comes with a cruising mainsail?
Every cruising mainsail includes two reef points, a cunningham, radial reinforcement patches, Dyneema leech and foot lines with an overhead leech line adjuster, battens (full or leech), and a sail bag. Luff slides, sail numbers and covers are not included.
Ordering, build and delivery
Does a sailmaker check my order?
Yes. A sailmaker checks the measurements and specification of every order before any cloth is cut. After you order we send you a short measurement check. If your boat's numbers change the price, we tell you before design starts and you can cancel for a full refund.
How long does it take to get a sail?
The standard build is about three to four weeks, then the sail ships by express courier. Cruising sails also offer an express build of about two weeks (8% extra) or an economy build of about eight weeks with slower freight (5.5% off). You can follow every stage in the online portal.
Do you ship to the United States and Australia? What does shipping cost?
Yes. Shipping is A$75 including GST within Australia. To the United States it is US$75 plus 15% of the order value as import duty, prepaid at checkout so there is nothing to pay on delivery. Most other countries are US$75, and remote destinations are US$375.
What warranty do the sails have?
Every Sails.Online sail has a 12-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. See the warranty page for what is covered and how to claim.
Can I cancel or return a custom sail?
Sails are made to order for your boat. You can cancel for a full refund before design starts, or for a refund less reasonable design and admin costs before the cloth is cut. Once cutting has started the order cannot be cancelled. Faulty sails are covered by the warranty.
