Optimum Cruise sailcloth, full-batten mainsail, standard build.
What sets the price
- Sail area. Price follows the size of the sail, which comes from your boat’s rig (I, J, P and E). A typical 39 footer carries about 36.3 m² of mainsail and 45.1 m² of 130% genoa.
- Sailcloth. Both cloths are woven polyester (Dacron) from Dimension-Polyant, the German sailcloth maker. Optimum Cruise is the value choice for coastal and weekend cruising. C-Breeze is a tighter weave that resists stretch and holds its shape for longer, for sails that work hard or go offshore. At 39 ft we use Optimum Cruise 348 OC (8.4 oz) or C-Breeze 351 CB (8 oz).
- Battens. Full battens (4) hold the sail’s shape and help it last. The 3 leech + 1 full head batten option costs a little less.
- Genoa size. We make furling genoas from 110% to 150%. Most cruising boats carry about 130%; a smaller genoa costs less.
- Build time. Standard is about 4 weeks. Express (about 2 weeks) adds 8%; economy (about 8 weeks) takes 5.5% off.

Why do sail prices vary between 39 ft boats?
Sail prices follow sail area, not boat length. A typical 39 ft boat carries about 36.3 m² of mainsail and 45.1 m² of 130% genoa, but a tall-rig or performance boat carries more, and a fractional rig has a bigger main and a smaller genoa. That is why we price every boat from its own rig dimensions (I, J, P and E).
What sailcloth weight does a 39 ft sailboat need?
We match the cloth weight to the boat's length using Dimension-Polyant's guide. For a 39 ft boat that is Optimum Cruise 348 OC (8.4 oz) or C-Breeze 351 CB (8 oz).
